A brand new fleet of refuse collection vehicles has taken to the streets of South Ribble.
South Ribble Borough Council has invested over £800,000 in six new wagons, which replace older waste collection vehicles that were coming to the end of the road. The new vehicles have a number of features to assist refuse collection teams, including low entry for easy access to cabs and on-board cameras showing a full view around each vehicle to improve operational safety and security.
The investment in a new fleet is the latest in a series of improvements to waste collections made by the council over recent years, including the introduction of weekly food waste collections.
South Ribble has one of the best recycling rates in the country, with nearly 50% of all the waste collected in the borough being recycled over the past 12 months. Working with our waste partners Enterprise, we are recycling more than ever before.
Conservative Councillor Peter Mullineaux, Deputy Leader of South Ribble Borough Council and cabinet member with responsibility for neighbourhoods and street scene, said: "Our new fleet of waste collection vehicles is another example of how we are maintaining and investing in frontline services that we know are valued by our residents.
"We've made a number of improvements to our waste collection service in recent years, making it easier than ever for our residents to recycle. Last year we recorded our highest-ever recycling rate of nearly 50%, which was one of the best in the country. This is a wonderful achievement and I'd like to thank our responsible residents for helping to put South Ribble ahead of the recycling game.
"I'd ask everybody to please continue to reduce, reuse and recycle as much waste as possible, and make sure you always put the right materials in the right containers for collection to allow us to do even better next year."
